Oh this one has been coming for a while...
I've long been saying this since I became cruelty-free and one that fights for and defends animal rights. No I'm not a psycho extremist like PETA or the ALF (although I have done some crazy things to rescue/save animals over the years). I don't go around beating up old women and throwing crimson paint all over their fur coats or letting out all of the rabbits I see in the breeder's hutches to be loose. That's not me. In my opinion there are far better ways to help the animals of the world, even one act at a time, without the extremes some psychos go to (that prove nothing, except that you actually are psycho). Passion and defense are a huge part of it, it's not about hurting and harming people to protect animals. For me, it's about education. Teaching people the right way to live a cruelty-free lifestyle, even if they choose not to be vegan/vegetarian. There are humane ways to do so, even if I myself do not choose to eat/wear animals or use them for entertainment. This is the kind of thing I try to educate others about. If you refuse to live a vegetarian/vegan lifestyle, at least try your hardest to be humane in all respects. It can be done. Meat eaters can raise their own animals humanely without chemicals, drugs, pain, or cruelty, and contrary to popular belief they can be killed swiftly with very minimal pain and suffering. If you refuse to give up meat/dairy then at least raise it yourself with dignity and humanity or get it from someone who does.
Though I am getting off the subject of what this blog is supposed to be about.
I hear it day in and day out, from people of all walks of life, all over the world. How cruel it is that the BLM rounds up wild mustangs and keeps them in government holding pens by the tens of thousands, sells them off by the herd to people who end up being killer buyers, and thus to the slaughterman's knife. How foals are run too hard down the mountainsides and are killed from the exhaustion and injury. How cruel it is for the Japanese to go out on their daily drive hunts and bring in dolphins where some are taken for the captive marine mammal industry while the rest are brutally slaughtered turning the cove into a sea of blood. How sad it is that baby elephants are left to fend for themselves and succumb to predators or starvation when their mothers are killed by ivory poachers. How cruel it is for vivisection labs to use companion animals like dogs and cats bought from local animal shelters for experimentation before being killed. How inhumane it is to keep a 12,5000 pound orca in a tiny concrete pond alone performing for dead frozen drug-filled fish. The list goes on, every day, how cruel this and that is, but then the people whimpering and turning into an angry mob over these things go home that night, get into the freezer, and pull out a nice big steak, chicken, pork, or other 'meat' animal to eat without a second thought.
Pot, meet Kettle.
There is nothing that irritates/angers me more than someone who thinks cruelty is okay for one species but not another. Just because it is deemed 'normal' and 'standard' as a way of life for one type of creature, based upon the society of people wherever in the world they may be, does not mean that it is any less cruel, harmful, or painful for the animals undergoing such acts. Who decided that a cow feels any less pain than a dolphin? Or that a chicken feels any less pain than a rhino? People who run around spouting about how cruel it is to slaughter dolphins for human consumption or how torturous it is to massacre seal pups by the thousands and then have no problem cooking up beef or chicken, or wearing leather made from baby goats should be completely ashamed of themselves. This is the mother of all hypocrisy. People like this really make my angry. You're basically saying one life form has more value than another simply because of a difference in species, and that just because something is widely accepted as normal where you live that it is automatically acceptable and okay, while other cruelties in other places are not. What a crock of bullshit.
All animals can feel pain, all of them can feel fear, anxiety, joy, happiness, contentment, etc. I seriously would love to just smack people who are sitting at home over dinner of some poultry, livestock, or seafood animal that are complaining about how cruel things are happening in Japan to dolphins, in Nevada to horses, to rhinos in Africa, etc. I would love to tell them they are the mother of all hypocrites. What, did that cow you're eating not feel pain as it died a horrible death piece by piece in a slaughterhouse where cruelty is deemed 'legal' and 'standardized' by the industry!? Did the fish not suffer as it was ripped from the water and thrown on to the deck to suffocate to death? Did the pig not cry out and struggle as it was lowered in a scalding tank of boiling water while still alive?
In America people eat cows, pigs, poultry, seafood, sheep, goats, bison, and deer commonly. To Americans this is perfectly acceptable. The animals being raised with inadequate feed, drugs, chemicals to make them gain weight faster that are tortured and slaughtered mercilessly in filthy slaughterhouses is absolutely normal and completely put out of mind when families go to the grocery store and buy meat for dinner. Yet on the other side of the coin the bitch, moan, whine, complain, and get all up in arms that people in other places like Europe, Japan, Belgium, and Moscow eat horses, camels, donkeys, llamas, dolphins, whales, etc. And it's not just food animals, it's bear dancing in China, tiger rugs in Mongolia, baby turtle crushing in South America, cows skinned alive in Russia. Cruelty doesn't have to be just food.
What is the fucking difference!?
People have NO fucking right to bitch and complain about how another society treats their animals and scream "Abuse! Torture! Neglect! Cruelty!" when THEY THEMSELVES are fully SUPPORTING the same kind of abuse, torture, neglect, and cruelty by purchasing their own corpses of pesticide-laden tortured animals to feed their families, taking them to circuses/marine parks to watch confined abused animals perform, wearing dead skin of all kinds of animals, and the likeness. Fucking hypocrites! Difference in species means nothing! ALL animals hurt! All animals feel pain. Don't you dare hop on your fucking high horse and open your big fat mouth and shout about mistreatment of animals in other countries, "Oh dolphins in Japan are being slaughtered! It must stop!" "Horses are being slaughtered in Mexico like cattle!" when YOU, YOURSELF are not only fully supporting, but paying for someone to commit the same fucking thing!
Cruelty is cruelty, no matter what species, no matter how large or small. Pain is pain. Suffering is suffering.
Next time you think about raising a bitchfit about animal cruelty somewhere else in the world, shut the fuck up and think about the cruelty you are supporting and paying for daily right in your own back yard before you say one fucking word.
